Willie was an All-Star high school football player and, at Savannah State College, was voted “All Conference Center and Linebacker. In addition, he trained and consulted with Mexico City and Munich Olympic athletes.
In 1996, Willie competed as a senior master in the Northern California Outrigger Canoe Association (NCOCA). His team ranked first in Northern California and took 2nd place with the Kalifornia Outrigger Association (KOA) of Southern California. Ranked as one of the best “seat fours” (power position) in Northern California, Willie competed on a Northern California All Star team in the Bankoh Molokai island-to-island canoe race, which is considered to be one of the most challenging outrigger canoe races in the world.
Willie Armstead’s professional background includes over 30 years as a Senior Information Technology professional with companies such as Sun Microsystems and Nortel Networks, but his passion, the fuel that drives him now, is a program that he had unknowingly been developing for the past 45 years.
Willie’s Information Technology and analytical background, coupled with over 40 years of conditioning and competing, drive Willie to always seek an improved and more effective approach to training, which is apparent in his style of conditioning instruction, and it’s popularity and results.
In early 1999, Willie started “spinning”. He completed the “Johnny G” Maddog Athletics Certification program and became a spinning instructor. Willie was voted “Bally/Gorilla/Pinnacle Group Exercise Instructor of the Year” for 2000.
After sustaining a spinal injury in a power-boating excursion in 2000, Willie was forced to master teaching spinning while off of the bike. Willie opted not to receive surgery for his injury and decided to recover through physical therapy. Determined to recover as quickly as possible and return to his normal activities, he felt that he needed to learn as much as possible about his injury and his chances for recovery. While conducting his research, he realized that balance, core strength, and stability are the keys to physical quality of life, and decided to put what he learned into a program that used conditioning philosophies, techniques, and advances proven successful over the past fifty years. This program was piloted to a wide range of students - fitness instructors, business professionals, law enforcement personnel, professional athletes, as well as medical professionals: doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and chiropractors.
